South Korea officially inaugurated its new embassy in Luxembourg on Friday, a milestone that marks a deepening of relations between the two countries.
In 2024, Seoul appointed Chun Young-Hee as its first resident ambassador to the Grand Duchy, moving away from a system where Luxembourg’s diplomatic affairs were managed from Brussels, supported only by a small local consulate. “We will have more people and more infrastructure to strengthen cooperation with Luxembourg,” said Ambassador Chun, emphasizing the importance of his new post.
At the opening ceremony, Chun highlighted the shared values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law that underpin the partnership between Luxembourg and South Korea. He also recalled the historical link forged during the Korean War, when Luxembourg contributed troops to support South Korea. “Since then, we have had a very good relationship,” he noted.
The establishment of the embassy is part of a broader initiative by the Korean government to expand its global diplomatic presence, announced in 2023. Luxembourg is one of 12 countries included in this expansion, reflecting Seoul’s commitment to strengthening ties not only in Europe but worldwide.
With this new mission, South Korea signals its intention to work even more closely with Luxembourg in political, economic, and cultural fields, while reaffirming the longstanding friendship that connects the two nations.
