New Section Speed Camera on N15 Aims to Improve Road Safety

Luxembourg is introducing a new section-based speed camera system on the N15 road as part of its efforts to improve road safety. Unlike traditional radars that measure speed at a single point, this system calculates the average speed of vehicles over a longer distance, encouraging drivers to maintain a consistent speed throughout the journey. The monitored section is located between Niederfeulen and Fuussekaul, an area that has raised safety concerns in recent years.

The system will begin with a testing phase starting at the end of March 2026. During this period, authorities will check the accuracy and performance of the technology before officially activating fines. The goal is to ensure the system works effectively and fairly before enforcement begins.

The speed limit on this section of the N15 remains set at 90 km/h, and a tolerance margin will be applied when calculating average speeds. Authorities have emphasized that the purpose of this system is not just enforcement, but prevention. By encouraging drivers to respect speed limits over a longer stretch, the government hopes to reduce accidents and improve overall road safety.

This decision follows previous incidents on the same road, including serious accidents that highlighted the dangers of speeding. Officials have clarified that section-based radars will only be installed in high-risk areas where they can have the greatest impact, rather than being implemented widely across the country.
