New Cycling Route Expansion Begins in Northern Luxembourg

The Luxembourg government has started work on extending the national cycling route PC22, which will strengthen bike connections in the northern part of the country. The new section will link areas between Bleesbruck, Tandel, and Fouhren, making it easier and safer for people to travel by bicycle. The project is part of Luxembourg’s long-term plan to improve sustainable mobility.

The official groundbreaking ceremony took place in early March 2026 and was attended by Mobility and Public Works Minister Yuriko Backes along with local mayors and infrastructure officials. Their presence highlighted the importance of developing better cycling infrastructure across the country. 

According to the government, this extension will help connect two important valleys — the Sûre and the Our — while improving the national network of cycling paths. The project aims to encourage more people to choose bikes for daily travel and recreation. 

Luxembourg has been investing heavily in eco-friendly transportation, and expanding cycling routes is a key part of that strategy. Authorities say the improved infrastructure will increase safety for cyclists and support greener travel options.
