Luxembourg to Launch Nationwide Speed Checks on 15 April

Luxembourg police have announced a major nationwide speed control campaign set for 15 April as part of the European Speedmarathon 2026 road safety initiative. For 24 hours, officers will carry out intensified checks across the country to encourage safer driving and reduce road accidents.

The campaign is part of a wider effort taking place in several European countries at the same time. Authorities say the operation is aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of speeding, which remains one of the leading causes of serious traffic accidents.

Drivers can expect increased monitoring on major roads, in towns, and in areas considered high risk. Police say the checks are designed not just to issue fines, but to remind motorists of the importance of respecting speed limits at all times.

In a more interactive move this year, residents are also being invited to help choose some speed checkpoint locations. Through the police’s Instagram account, people can vote for possible control spots in different regions of the country, with selected locations expected to be included in the final patrol plan.

Authorities hope the campaign will encourage drivers to be more cautious and help prevent avoidable crashes. Police have urged all road users to stay alert, follow speed limits, and make safety a priority during the operation and beyond.
