Luxembourg Secures Steel Industry Future with New LUX2029 Deal

Luxembourg has signed a major agreement known as “LUX2029” to secure the long-term future of its steel industry, particularly operations linked to ArcelorMittal. The agreement comes after detailed discussions between the government, company representatives, and labour unions, highlighting the importance of the steel sector to the country’s economy.

The deal includes planned investments ranging from €290 million to €334 million across key production sites in Luxembourg. These funds will be used to modernise infrastructure, improve efficiency, and strengthen the competitiveness of local steel production in an increasingly challenging global market.

In addition to industrial upgrades, the agreement also focuses on innovation and digital transformation. Plans include strengthening cybersecurity systems, introducing new technologies, and developing workforce skills through initiatives such as a maintenance training academy.

The agreement also addresses workforce adjustments, with measures such as voluntary departure schemes and internal job mobility to manage changes responsibly. At the same time, Luxembourg will continue to serve as a key headquarters location for ArcelorMittal, reinforcing its strategic importance in the global steel industry.

Overall, the LUX2029 deal reflects Luxembourg’s commitment to preserving its industrial base while adapting to modern economic and technological challenges.
