Luxembourg Publishes New List of Jobs Facing Worker Shortages

LuxembourgPosted 10 hours ago by Team · 1 min read

Luxembourg has officially updated its list of professions experiencing a serious shortage of workers, highlighting key sectors where employers are struggling to recruit. The announcement, made on 27 March 2026 by ADEM (the national employment agency), identifies around 20 occupations where demand for skilled workers is significantly higher than supply. This list is regularly updated based on labour market data such as job vacancies, hiring difficulties, and the number of registered job seekers.

The shortage spans across several important industries, including healthcare, construction, engineering, and technical services. Roles such as nurses, electricians, mechanics, engineers, and construction workers are among the most affected. These shortages are partly due to a growing economy, an aging workforce, and a mismatch between the skills available and those required by employers.

To address this issue, Luxembourg has introduced measures to simplify the hiring process for these high-demand roles. Employers are given easier access to recruit talent from outside the European Union, with faster administrative procedures. This helps businesses fill urgent vacancies more quickly and maintain productivity in key sectors.

In addition, the government is focusing on training and reskilling programs to better prepare job seekers for these roles. By aligning education and vocational training with market needs, authorities aim to reduce the gap over time. This initiative reflects Luxembourg’s broader strategy to maintain a strong and competitive labour market.
