Luxembourg Extends Support for Green Mobility and Electric Vehicles

Luxembourg has announced that it will continue its financial support for eco-friendly transport by extending the “Klimabonus Mobilitéit” scheme beyond mid-2026. The initiative aims to encourage residents and businesses to switch to cleaner mobility options and supports the country’s broader climate goals.

The subsidy programme covers a range of electric transport options, including cars, bicycles, and other zero-emission vehicles. By maintaining these incentives, the government hopes to make sustainable mobility more accessible and affordable for a larger number of people.

Authorities also highlighted that stability in such schemes is important, as it allows consumers to plan long-term investments in electric vehicles with greater confidence. This is especially relevant as the demand for greener alternatives continues to grow across Europe.

In addition, Luxembourg is working on simplifying the process further. A new pre-financing system is expected to be introduced in 2027, which would allow buyers to receive financial support more quickly at the time of purchase instead of waiting for reimbursements.

Looking ahead, this extension is part of Luxembourg’s wider environmental strategy to reduce emissions and promote sustainable living. By continuing to invest in green mobility, the country aims to meet its climate targets while also improving air quality and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The government is expected to review and adapt the programme over time to ensure it remains effective and aligned with evolving environmental and economic needs.
