Luxembourg Continues Talks on Minimum Wage Policy

The Luxembourg government has reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing discussions about the country’s minimum wage system following recent meetings with social partners. While talks have taken place, differences remain on how certain wage indicators should be calculated.

A key point of debate is the method used to determine the median wage, which influences how the minimum wage is assessed. Authorities stressed that their approach follows long-established methods and relies on official data from Eurostat.

The government emphasized that the current system is aligned with European guidelines, particularly the benchmark linking minimum wages to a percentage of the median income. It also clarified that the methodology used has not changed in recent years.

In addition, officials highlighted that minimum wages continue to benefit from automatic indexation, ensuring adjustments based on economic conditions. Further updates are also made through regular legal reviews.

Despite ongoing disagreements, the government has expressed its intention to continue dialogue in order to reach a balanced and transparent outcome.
