Luxembourg Clarifies Doctor Suspension Process
LuxembourgPosted on 20 February 2026 by Team · 1 min readThe Luxembourg Ministry of Health has responded to recent media discussions about the temporary suspension of a doctor’s licence, stressing that the process strictly follows the law. Officials said the rule that guides this action is part of the medical profession law from 1983, and the appointment of independent medical experts is done by the Health Directorate, not by political leaders, to ensure impartiality.
These independent experts will review all medical facts objectively and decide what conclusions can be drawn. The ministry emphasized that this is crucial for patient safety and fairness to all parties involved.
The case also reached the administrative court, which on 13 February 2026 rejected a request to suspend the suspension’s enforcement, meaning the process continues under the existing legal framework.
Health authorities say they will not make further public comments at this stage to protect the legal rights and privacy of those involved, highlighting their commitment to a balanced procedure.
This clarification comes amid broader public debate about medical accountability and transparency in Luxembourg’s health system.
