As of 31 August 2025, Luxembourg counted 18,065 resident jobseekers, marking a 1.9% increase compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by the Employment Development Agency (ADEM). Despite the rise of 330 individuals, the unemployment rate remains unchanged at 5.9%.
ADEM highlighted that the increase mainly affects jobseekers aged over 45 as well as those with higher education qualifications. The fields most impacted are accounting, secretarial and administrative support, IT, and road transport management.
The number of new resident registrations with ADEM remained stable in August, with 2,460 people signing up—just 0.2% more than in August 2024.
Meanwhile, employer demand showed signs of weakening. A total of 2,636 job vacancies were reported in August 2025, down by 6.5% from the previous year. At the end of the month, the number of open positions stood at 6,536, representing a 9.8% decline compared to August 2024.
