Affordable housing in Luxembourg has reached a new milestone. Presenting the 2024 annual report of the Special Fund for Affordable Housing to the Chamber of Deputies on Thursday, Housing Minister Claude Meisch confirmed that the country now counts more than 4,200 subsidized units.
Last year alone, 504 additional homes were added, bringing the total to 4,226 units across 292 active projects in 82 municipalities. According to the minister, this marks a growth of nearly 39% over the past five years.
The vast majority of these units—97%—are new constructions, while the remaining 3% come from renovated properties. Of the total stock, 63% are designated for affordable rentals, while 37% are reserved for long-term sales.
Significant Financial Commitments
The financial scale of these projects remains substantial. By the end of 2024, more than €669 million in contributions still had to be paid out. During the same year, the ministry granted €277.1 million in financial support and disbursed €153.6 million in direct “aid for stone” to fund building efforts.
Minister Meisch reiterated that affordable housing remains an “absolute priority” for the government, underscoring that continued investment is crucial to meet demand across the country.
