The Petro-Center group is rapidly scaling up its electric charging network under the BestCharge brand, aiming to transform mobility in the Grand Duchy. On Thursday, Differdange became the first municipality to inaugurate a complete charging network in partnership with the Luxembourg company, featuring 32 slow-charging points (11 kW) and seven fast chargers (50 to 300 kW).
Currently, BestCharge already operates 120 fast-charging locations across Luxembourg. According to CEO Patrick Schnell, the network is expected to reach 200 by the end of 2025 and 300 by the end of 2026. New stations are set to appear in Leudelange, Munsbach, Troisvierges, Echternach, and Esch-sur-Alzette’s Terres Rouges, while existing sites, such as the Esso station in Senningerberg, will double their capacity due to high demand.
Schnell emphasised the speed of new equipment: “This allows you to recharge a battery from 20 to 80% in 20–30 minutes. With the new 400 kW stations, this time could drop to under 20 minutes.”
The investment behind this expansion is significant. For example, building four charging stations with eight charging points in Echternach required €1.2 million, including civil engineering costs. Schnell acknowledged that profitability is not yet in sight: “It’s a long-term investment. The electric car market is growing slower than expected, and competition is strong. But the most important thing is to secure the best network in Luxembourg.”
Currently, customers are charged 64.9 cents per kWh using a BestCharge or credit card. However, the company is considering subscription models to lower costs for regular users.
