The debate over the insecticide acetamiprid has resurfaced in France, but in Luxembourg the product remains authorised. It is currently the only insecticide permitted in the country that acts on the central nervous system of insects, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The substance is mainly used on fruit and vegetable crops to control pests, the ministry explained. Food safety checks over the past decade show limited risks: of 5,381 samples analysed, only 0.3% were found to be non-compliant.
Still, Luxembourg authorities emphasise that the use of acetamiprid is not actively encouraged. The Ministry of Agriculture continues to promote research and demonstration projects on alternative pest-control techniques, supporting farmers who submit relevant applications.
