Vicky Krieps Shines in Golden Lion Winner, Luxembourg Tech Triumphs in Venice

Luxembourg talent once again left its mark at the Venice Film Festival, where both the nation’s film and tech industries celebrated major achievements.

The 82nd edition of the prestigious festival awarded the Golden Lion for Best Film to Father Mother Sister Brother, directed by Jim Jarmusch. The family drama, set across New Jersey, Dublin, and Paris, features a stellar cast including Adam Driver, Cate Blanchett, Tom Waits, and Luxembourg’s own Vicky Krieps, who continues to shine on the international stage.

Luxembourg’s Digital Innovation Recognised
In parallel, Luxembourg’s growing strength in immersive technologies also received global recognition. The virtual reality work A Long Goodbye — co-produced by Tarantula Luxembourg alongside Belgian and Dutch partners, and animated by Luxembourg-based studio Velvet Flare — won the Venice Immersive Achievement Prize.

Directed by Kate Voet and Victor Maes, the production blends 2D and 3D animation into a deeply emotional VR experience. Culture Minister Eric Thill praised the success, calling it “another great reward for our audiovisual and film sector,” while Film Fund Luxembourg director Guy Daleiden highlighted that the prize “confirms the country’s commitment to new digital storytelling formats.”

Building on Previous Success
This is not the first time Luxembourg has impressed in Venice’s immersive category. In 2024, two Luxembourg-backed works also claimed top awards, cementing the country’s reputation as a hub for innovative cinema and technology.
