E-Scooter Regulations Clarified for Safer Use

As electric scooters gain popularity across Luxembourg, authorities are reminding users of the rules that govern their use to ensure safety for everyone on the road. These devices are regulated under the national traffic code and are generally treated similarly to bicycles.

E-scooters are allowed on cycle paths and roads but are not permitted on pavements. Riders must ensure their scooters are equipped with proper lighting and safety features, especially when used at night or in low-visibility conditions. While wearing a helmet is not mandatory, it is strongly advised to reduce the risk of injury.

Authorities have also expressed concern over the increasing number of scooters being modified to exceed legal speed limits. Such modifications make the vehicles non-compliant and dangerous, leading to enforcement actions including fines and confiscation in certain cases.
