On 3 December 2025, Luxembourg hosted a high-level Benelux+ summit in Schengen to address shared water, flood, and climate issues. Led by Environment Minister Serge Wilmes, delegates discussed improving flood preparedness, promoting circular water use, leveraging AI for better water management, and strengthening regional cooperation on climate policies. Wilmes emphasized that “water-related challenges know no borders,” calling for solidarity and collective action. The meeting highlighted the region’s commitment to innovation and cross-border collaboration to ensure a sustainable, water-secure future.

Participants also explored concrete projects, including the development of a Luxembourg “digital twin” for real-time water monitoring and coordinated early-warning systems for floods. By sharing expertise and best practices, the Benelux+ countries aim to turn the region into a model for cross-border environmental management, demonstrating how innovation and cooperation can help communities adapt to the growing challenges of climate change.
