Prince Frederik of Luxembourg, youngest son of Prince Robert and Princess Julie, has died at the age of 22 after a long battle with POLG mitochondrial disease, a rare genetic condition that affects cellular energy production.
The Grand Ducal Family announced that Frederik passed on March 1, 2025, after years of living with the disorder he was diagnosed with in his early teens.
Remembered for his courage and resilience, his family has celebrated his life and continued mission, including raising awareness through the foundation established in his name. Tributes from around the world have poured in, honoring his spirit and advocating for greater understanding of rare diseases.
