Unemployment in Luxembourg Hits Nearly Five-Year High

LuxembourgPosted on 24 December 2025 by Team

Recent data shows that Luxembourg’s unemployment rate has climbed to around 6.2%, the highest level seen in nearly five years, reflecting ongoing shifts in the nation’s labour market.

This rise in joblessness, marking an increase from the previous month, highlights challenges for job seekers and policymakers alike as more residents register with the National Employment Agency. In particular, highly qualified job seekers and long-term unemployed individuals have contributed to the uptick, even as employers continue to report a significant number of open positions.

Although Luxembourg’s economy remains robust overall, the labour market trends suggest a cooling phase where finding work has become tougher for many, and sectors like administrative support, IT and transport are seeing noticeable increases in jobseekers.

Officials are watching these developments closely as they work to balance workforce needs and improve employment opportunities across the country.
