IMD World Competitiveness Rankings' 30th edition was revelaed this year. Its mission is to help countries achieve prosperity and higher quality of life.

The top five most competitive economies in the world remain the same as in the previous year, but their order changes. The US returns to the first spot, followed by Hong Kong, Singapore, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The Netherlands moves one place to 4th, swapping with Switzerland which moves down to 5th.

This information feeds into four categories – economic performance, infrastructure, government efficiency and business efficiency – to give a final score for each country.

Economic performance

This category measures the competitive strengths of the domestic economy and its macroeconomic performance.

Luxembourg stands 12th in the Economic Performance category.
