Definitive Portrait of Grand Duke Guillaume to Be Unveiled at Parliament in January

Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies will soon welcome the official portrait of Grand Duke Guillaume, marking the transition from his father’s 25-year reign.

The Maison du Grand-Duc has commissioned four portraits — three of the new Grand Duke and one of Grand Duchess Stéphanie — continuing a long-standing royal tradition. Three of these paintings, including one of the Grand Duchess, are already complete and were recently revealed by the Grand Ducal Court. The final piece, by British artist Andrew Gow, is expected to be finished by January.

All four portraits will debut in January 2026 at the National Museum of Archaeology, History and Art (MNAHA). After the exhibition, one will be chosen for permanent display in Parliament’s plenary hall, while the remaining three will reside in the Grand Ducal Palace.

The works were created by Luxembourgish painter Roland Schauls and British portraitists Louise Pragnell and Andrew Gow — the latter also responsible for the official image of Grand Duchess Stéphanie.

The portrait of Grand Duke Henri, painted by Spanish artist Ricardo Macarrón, was removed from Parliament in September to make way for his successor’s image.
