Expats can now vote in local municipal elections on 11 June 2023

Municipal elections are due on 11 June 2023. Now, the good news, expats who have just arrived and registered with the commue can now vote in the local municipal elections. This is a welcome announcement from Luxembourg. Previously, you should have lived in the country for 5 years before you can vote. No more. Just arrive, register in the commune and off you can vote.

And it gets better. You can also now become a candidate in your municipality. For this, you should have been a resident of at least 6 months in the country before you can vote.

How to register to vote? You can registester online on guichet.lu or visit your local townhall (where you registered your residence) and vote.

You need to sign up before 17 April 2023 for voting on 11 June 2023.

How to become a candidate? You should check with your municipality whether it's possible to stil register.
