On 14 November 2025, the City of Dudelange and the University of Luxembourg will host a major conference titled “Local Democracy and Collective Intelligence: Experimenting, Evaluating, Transforming” at the opderschmelz cultural centre.
This event marks the conclusion of a five-year research-action project launched in 2020, focused on citizen participation and democratic innovation at the municipal level. According to the municipality, the goal is to share key findings, encourage public debate, and envision the future of local democracy rooted in collective intelligence.
Dudelange’s commitment to participatory democracy dates back to 2004, when it adopted the Local Participation Charter. The 2020 partnership with the University of Luxembourg further deepened this engagement, positioning Dudelange as a true “laboratory for local democracy.”
The upcoming conference will not only present the lessons learned from these initiatives but also foster dialogue with national and international partners, exploring innovative ways to strengthen democratic engagement at the local level.
