YOUR WINE AND SPIRITS COURSES IN LUXEMBOURG – FOR BEGINNERS AND PROFESSIONALS
Bernard-Massard is Luxembourg’s largest privately owned winery, founded in 1921 in Grevenmacher on the banks of the Moselle River. Today, the house produces more than four million bottles of sparkling and still wines each year and also offers a carefully curated selection of international wines and spirits through its shop and e-shop.
In 2023, the Bernard-Massard Wine Academy was created to share this passion and expertise through engaging and educational courses. Hosted in our historic cellars, the academy welcomes both curious beginners and industry professionals who wish to deepen their knowledge of wine and spirits in a friendly and inspiring setting.
In just three years, more than 1,000 students have already been trained, confirming the growing success of our courses. Building on the success of our wine courses, the academy expanded in 2026 with the launch of WSET Spirits courses.
Our programmes follow the internationally recognised standards of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), one of the world’s leading providers of wine and spirits education. These structured courses combine theory and guided tastings, helping participants understand how wines and spirits are produced around the world, how they taste, and how to describe them with confidence.
WSET COURSES IN WINES
We offer three certification levels in Wines, available in both English and French:
WSET Level 1 Award in Wines
A one-day introduction to the world of wine (7 hours) including the tasting of more than 12 wines. Participants discover the basics of grape growing and winemaking, explore key grape varieties and wine styles, and learn about food and wine pairing, as well as wine storage and service.
WSET Level 2 Award in Wines
This course (17 hours, delivered over several sessions) explores around 30 major grape varieties and the regions where they are grown. Through theory and the tasting of around 45 wines using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT), students learn to confidently describe wines and understand the factors that influence their style and quality.
WSET Level 3 Award in Wines
An advanced course (33 hours) designed for serious wine enthusiasts and professionals. Over six days, students deepen their understanding of viticulture and winemaking and explore the key factors that shape wine style and quality. The course includes guided tastings of more than 75 wines and develops a detailed analytical approach to tasting.
WSET COURSES IN SPIRITS
Two certification levels are available in French and English:
WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits
A one-day introductory course (7 hours) designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Participants taste around 10 different spirits while learning the basics of spirit production, including the raw materials and production methods behind each category. The course also introduces the fundamentals of tasting and mixology, helping students recognize key aromas and flavours and gain confidence in describing what they taste.
WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits
A more in-depth two-day course (15 hours) including the tasting of around 40 spirits, exploring global spirits categories and production methods in greater detail.
All WSET wine courses include an examination, and successful candidates receive an internationally recognised certification.
