For those seeking a structured understanding of wine tasting and theory, we offer three certification courses in Wines, available in both English and French:
- WSET Level 1
- WSET Level 2
- WSET Level 3
These courses include an exam, and an internationally recognized certificate is provided upon successful completion.
WSET Level 1 (7 hours) provides an immersive day of learning with the tasting of 12+ wines, providing an overview of grape growing, winemaking, major grape varieties and wine styles, food and wine pairings, as well as wine storage and service. Level 1 is examined by a 45-minute exam with 30 multiple choice questions (closed book), a grade of 70% is required to pass.
WSET Level 2 (17 hours) – also suitable for beginners – takes place over 17 hours in a range of formats (4 afternoons or 3 full days). The class includes a tasting of 45 wines in accordance with the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT). Explore the world's 30 major grape varieties, the regions where they are cultivated, and the wine styles they produce. Through a blend of tasting and theory, delve into factors influencing style and quality, and learn to confidently describe wines from around the world. Level 2 is examined by a 60-minute exam with 50 multiple choice questions (closed book), a grade of 55% is required to pass.
WSET Level 3 (33 hours) – an advanced level course for serious wine enthusiasts and professionals. Over 6 days students build on Level 2 knowledge to understand the ‘why’ and ‘how’ wines are made and taste the way they do. Through tutored tastings of over 75 wines in accordance with the Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT), students learn how to assess style, structure and quality with confidence. Level 3 is examined by a blind tasting of two wines over 30 minutes, and a 2-hour theory paper with multiple choice and essay questions. Students must achieve 55% on each paper (tasting and theory) to achieve the Level 3 Award in Wines.
