Esch-Belval to Remove Old Power Lines After Six Decades

LuxembourgPosted on 11 November 2025 by Team

Starting Wednesday, works will begin to remove the old electric power transmission lines connecting Aubange (Belgium) and Esch-sur-Alzette’s Belval district, marking the end of infrastructure that has stood since 1962.

The project will unfold in several phases. Initially, preliminary checks will be carried out to ensure that operations proceed smoothly. Over the following four months, workers will gradually dismantle the power lines, before moving on to remove the pylons and restore the ground.

According to Belgian outlet RTBF, the entire process is expected to take around nine months and aims to modernize and strengthen the Belgian energy grid.

Although the Esch-Belval lines have been inactive for years, their removal represents a major step in updating the region’s energy infrastructure and improving cross-border grid efficiency.
